The lenses we fit

Scleral lenses and the others

Scleral lenses are most of what we do. These are the others, for eyes where a standard lens falls short.

  • Scleral lenses

Large and firm, resting on the white of the eye and clearing the cornea.

    About scleral lenses
  • Corneal gas-permeable lenses

Smaller firm lenses that sit on the cornea, for some irregular corneas and some prescriptions.

  • Hybrid lenses

A firm center with a soft skirt, for people who want the clear optics of a firm lens and a softer edge.

  • Soft toric lenses

Soft lenses shaped to correct astigmatism, for people whose eyes are otherwise healthy.

  • Soft multifocal lenses

Soft lenses that correct for near and far, fitted with a trial before anything is ordered.

  • Custom soft lenses

Soft lenses made to the measurements of your eye when a ready-made lens will not fit.

Trial lenses

You try a lens before anything is ordered

Every fitting starts with a diagnostic lens on your eye. If it does not suit, we change the design, or we tell you that another type of lens would fit better. You do not order a lens you have not worn.

How a trial works

  • A trial lens for each new design

  • Changes made from what we see, not from a chart

  • Another lens type, if that is the honest answer

A fingertip balances a contact lens above an opened blister pack and a white lens case.

Your prescription is yours

Your prescription is yours. When your fitting is complete we give you a copy of your contact lens prescription, written with the lens design so another provider can read it, and you can fill it anywhere that can make the lens. We do not ask you to buy your lenses from us, or to pay extra for the copy.

About contact lenses

Do you fit ordinary soft lenses?

Yes, for patients of the clinic whose eyes call for a custom fit, a toric design or a multifocal. Ask when you book if you are unsure which lens you need.

Can I wear contact lenses with dry eyes?

Some people can, in a design that suits them. We look at the surface of the eye first and tell you honestly which lenses are worth trying. Results vary.

How often should the lenses be checked?

At every visit until the fit is settled, and once a year after that, with an eye health exam.

Ask about the right lens

Book a visit and bring the lenses you wear now, or call and describe what is not working.
