Eye exams
A full eye exam, for eyes that need a closer look
Every lens fitting starts with one.
A comprehensive exam looks at how you see and at the health of the eye, front and back. We do it for people we fit and for new patients who want an exam with an optometrist who looks closely at the surface of the eye.
What to expect
About an hour, longer when a fitting follows
Dilation or imaging when the exam calls for it
Your results explained, with a copy of your prescription

What we check
Six things every exam looks at
Vision and prescription
How well you see with and without correction, and the glasses prescription that follows.
Eye pressure
A check that belongs in every adult exam, because pressure changes can go unnoticed.
The front of the eye
The cornea, the lids and the white of the eye, under the slit lamp.
The back of the eye
The retina and the optic nerve, with dilation or imaging when the exam calls for it.
The tear film
How well the eye keeps itself wet, which decides how well a lens will sit.
The shape of the cornea
A map of the surface, which tells us whether it is regular or not.
Before you come
How it is billed
A routine exam goes to a vision plan. A visit for an eye problem or a follow-up goes to medical insurance.
How fees workWhat to bring
